The Frank Country - Frankreich - Francia
Sorry dear Italian and Spanish friends, French are not "Latin".
"The Franks are coming!" Watch the story of the ancestors of the French:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=xA_SSpQDpl4&t=47s
Originally a Celt territory, it was invaded by the Romans in 45 BC and called Gallia.
Then Franks tribes took over the territory and made it their "Kingdom of the Franks"
Clovis became the 1st king of the Franks in 498. He made Lutetia - Paris his capital.
Charles Martel, Chief of the Franks, pushed back Muslim troops invading France in 732.
He founded the Capetian Dynasty but never officially became King.
Charlemagne or Karl der Große, born in today Germany, became King of the Franks in 768. He founded the Holly Roman Empire and became Emperor of the Franks.
It was the first French king of the Carolingian dynasty.
In 987, King Hugues Capet founded the Capetian Dynasty that lasted until Charles X in 1830.

"Plutot mourir que reculer!"

Marshal Ferdinand Foch, French Commander in Chief of Allies Forces WW1
From BBC : "There have been 53 major wars in Europe. France had been a belligerent in 49 of them.

From an American soldier who fought in Afghanistan along French soldiers
I am an American who lived on FOB Tora with Task Force Bison & Task Force Richelieu in '10 & '11. I spent plenty of time in the "Green Zone" and in northern Tagab so I understand how tough northern Tagab is. Proud to serve with my French brothers. Vive la France!

French suck?    Les Français ratent?
SOME OF THE GREAT FRENCH INVENTIONS, WORLD INITIATIVES, ETC
www.youtube.com/watch?v=UepY3presEU=
- The Denim Jean's is a French originated product: Denim comes from "De Nimes" (From Nimes), southern French city where the Serge textile was created (later called Denim textile).
- The First "Auto-mobile" was born in France: the Fardier was invented by Joseph Cugnot in 1770 and drove several times around Versailles; it was a steam powered 4-wheel vehicle.
- The First in flight was actually Clément Ader in 1890 aboard his Eole plane, flying for 4 minutes over a field near Paris. That was 13 years before the Wright bros ... sorry North Carolina! But the Eole was only human powered like a bicycle, without engine.
The Montgolfier brothers were 1st ever in the air in 1783 aboard their hot air balloon.
- The 1st "Encyclopedia" was French (yes, before the British): Pierre Bayle published a complete and illustrated "Dictionnaire Universel" in 1697. It was the first "book" including definitions in all fields with related images.
- The 1st theory of evolution was French (Yes, before Darwin): George Leclerc de Buffon wrote about his theories on natural evolution in the book "Etudes naturelles" in 1745.
- The Universal Declaration of the Human Rights comes from a French idea (yes, before the Americans): Jean-Jacques Rousseau described the idea of human "equality" in his "Contrat Social" in 1762.

Not everything is perfect in France!
Tout n'est pas parfait en France!
- As De Gaulle said once: "Hard to manage a country with 400 different cheeses!":
French are always arguing or protesting about laws or state decisions...
- French Trade Unions are making a confusion between Democracy and Strikes:
they go on strike for any reason, even futile, and annoy the heck out of everyone!
- French people are depressed: in 2013, following a world survey, French were equally ranked with the Afghans and Syrians for pessimism. Not enough vacation? Not enough Comfort? Not enough Joie de Vivre? Come on!!!
- The French "Administration" (civil servants) has a bad reputation: it is slow and it drowns everyone with tons of un-useful forms. Everyone wants to change that since centuries but nobody does it!
- Seriously: although WW2 was a French military failure, the real shame was the Vichy collaboration with the Nazis to deport French people. Most French still don't understand how could all that have happened in the country of "Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité"!
- French were ranked the worst tourists in the world by a 2005 international survey: they always complain and get upset if they can't find French food in a foreign country. Worst than the Americans!
- Too many French still think that rich people are either bad or crooks, that they should be taxed at the maximum rate, etc.
(jealousy or stupidity?)
- Social Democracy: ok! Socialism: outdated and inefficient!
- Racism is still alive in France .. or is it Nationalism? Anyway, it's absurd and "unfrance"!
- Some emigrates complain that they have no real chance of success in France;
Well, when you want you can! Just look at the section "French Dream" above!
But it is true that too many struggle to find a job because of their ethnic origins or religion!
- France, the Fashion country? Not in the street anymore! There still are some elegant French people though...
- French are bad advertisers: many people think that Airbus & Alstom are German, Bic & Dannon are American, Babybell & Michelin are English, Areva is Brazilian, Evian is Swiss, French cars are lemons... If you read all data above, you know the truth!
Learn to promote your talents worldwide, French businessmen!
- For many years, we said to the French they should speak English. Now many of them do and when a foreigner makes the effort to talk to them in French, they answer in English!
